The Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Ecological Reserve are known as the Back Bay Neighborhood in the Newport Beach area. This area draws many migratory birds, endangered species and much more. It's a massive wetland area with plenty of hiking, cycling and other activities. Here are some of the things you can do in the Back Bay area.

Newport Beach Vineyards & Winery

If you enjoy wine and want to enjoy a tour or just a tasting, this is the place for you. They produce an award-winning Meritage Red Wine, along with many others. The exclusive Underground Wine Cafe is found on the property, along with a bird aviary, botanical gardens, koi ponds and more. Enjoy an event at the vineyard or juts come out for a tour.

Upper Newport Bay

This large 1,000-acre open space is one of the few estuaries remaining in southern California. It's a tranquil area with nearly 200 species of birds, along with plenty of fish, plans and mammals.

Peter & Mary Muth Interpretive Center

If you plan to visit the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve and Nature Preserve, this is where you should start. Enjoy the exhibits, movie theater, butterfly garden and much more. The attraction is open from 10am to 4pm every day of the week except Monday.

Visit the Beach

Newport Dunes Beach is one of the top beaches in the area and provides plenty of family fun. The sand is soft, the water is warm and there are plenty of things to do at the beach.
