Balboa Island is a quaint area full of carefree living, creativity, and family-friendly neighbors. You’ll see many pets, many people out and about and plenty of relaxing activities. You can enjoy recreational activities, walking around and enjoying the view, dining, entertainment and plenty of fun. Boardwalk & Ferry

You can spend the day just walking around the beautiful boardwalk at Balboa Island. You can also lounge around, go boating or biking. There is even the famous old-fashioned ferry.

For those wanting to ride the ferry, you can hop aboard from Balboa or Balboa Island for free. It has been operating since 1919 and the trip will go about a quarter of a mile across the bay. It takes only 10 minutes to board and cross the bay. You can pull your car onto the ferry or just hop aboard for those walking or biking. You can even watch the ferry from the window seats at the Tale of the Whale Restaurant in the Balboa Pavilion.

Shopping & Entertainment

You can find tons of shopping options on Balboa Island. You will find stores to include:

  • Home decorating
  • Specialty gift stores
  • Clothing boutiques
  • Groceries

Along with shopping, there are plenty of dining options and other services on the island. For restaurants and fun food options, check out Balboa Bars, the Berry Stand, Yummy Food and the coffee shops with fresh pastries. The island is also home to real estate professionals, hair services, dentists, floral shops, financial services, photography and so much more.

Special Events

This past summer and fall was the Great Blue Whale Watching event at Newport Beach. They allow visitors to spend a day on a whale watching cruise to see blue whales, finback whales and even killer whales.

Balboa Island is a very popular area to spend time due to all the great amenities, services and views offered here.
